The reigning Olympic champion takes on her predecessor for the second time in two days at the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2023.
Rio 2016 champion Carolina Marin won the final group battle on Friday against Tokyo 2020 winner Chen Yu Fei. Following the semifinals draw, the two were drawn once again against each other, while the top half of the draw will feature world champion An Se Young against three-time Finals winner Tai Tzu Ying.
Men’s singles will see an all-Danish semifinal between four-time Finals champion Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen, in a repeat of their showdown for the 2020 crown. The other semifinal will see 2018 champion and local hope Shi Yu Qi take on YONEX French Open winner Jonatan Christie.
The mixed doubles semifinals will see a replay of the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2023 final, with defending champions Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong taking on world champions Seo Seung Jae/Chae Yu Jung.
In women’s doubles, defending champions Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan will look to ward off the threat of fast-rising youngsters Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning, winners of the Eddy Choong Most Promising Player of the Year award. While Chen/Jia are in the hunt for their fourth season finale title as a pair, Chen will look to extend her individual title haul to six.
Men’s doubles will see defending champions Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi take on world champions Kang Min Hyuk/Seo Seung Jae, while in the other half, world No.1 pair Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang are up against YONEX All England champions Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
