Zhang Yi Man believes her VICTOR Hong Kong Open 2023 semifinal win is just rewards for her tireless grind on the training courts.

The 26-year-old qualified for the biggest final of her career on Saturday after defeating a weary Goh Jin Wei 21-14 21-11 in just 29 minutes at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

“I’m reaping the benefits of all my hard work and efforts. This shows I’m training well and that I’m on the right track,” said the world No.17.

“We were thorough in terms of our tactical preparation for this match and I’m happy I implemented them as planned.”

Zhang will take on top seed Akane Yamaguchi, who beat Gregoria Mariska Tunjung 21-17 23-25 21-18, for the Super 500 title tomorrow. Although yet to overcome the Japanese world No.2 after three attempts, Zhang has been in fine form throughout the week, winning all her matches in straight games.

“I’m feeling confident but I don’t want to think too much about the final. My focus is on playing well. I’m very happy and excited and hope to perform,” said Zhang.

Zhang has already won one title this season – in February at the Thailand Masters, which was her first on the HSBC BWF World Tour. Prior to that, she finished runner-up at two other Super 300 tournaments – New Zealand Open in 2018 and HYLO Open last year.
