It is well-established Zheng and Huang win almost everywhere but their record in their homeland has been impeccable since pairing up in 2017.

Of the 11 major tournaments they participated in over the past half decade, Zheng and Huang only failed to taste glory in four, meaning they have a remarkable 64 per cent success rate on home soil.

In fact, the world No.1s will go into the first post-COVID China Open looking to win their fourth consecutive crown at the tournament. In 2019, they completed their hattrick with a three-game win over compatriots Wang Yi Lyu/Huang Dong Ping.

In 2018, three titles came their way – World Championships, China Open and Fuzhou China Open. A year later, the three-time world champions added two more individual honours – China Open and World Tour Finals.

On top of that, Zheng and Huang were also part of two Sudirman Cup-winning squads – in Nanning in 2019 and just recently in May in Suzhou.

If they retain their title next week, Zheng/Huang will become the most successful mixed pair in tournament history and the first to win four in a row.
