Chinese lefthander Weng Hong Yang, runner-up at the PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2023, will feature in an interesting opening round against Kidambi Srikanth at the TOYOTA GAZOO RACING Thailand Open 2023.
Weng fell in three hard-fought games to Kidambi’s compatriot HS Prannoy on Sunday and will expect a difficult opener against Kidambi, who found form in Malaysia with a quarterfinal performance.
Another interesting opening round pits marathon man Lin Chun-Yi, who won a two-hour bout last week, against senior compatriot Chou Tien Chen.
In men’s doubles, second seeds Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi face a stiff test in their opener, as they face Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk/Seo Seung Jae, who have a 2-0 record against them.
Meanwhile, among the high-profile withdrawals from the Thailand Open were Anders Antonsen, Kento Momota and Chen Yu Fei.
