Viktor Axelsen’s dominance on court reflected in his prize money earnings rise off it as the Dane has already pocketed nearly a quarter million US dollars.
The Olympic champion, winner of four HSBC BWF World Tour events so far this year, earned US$232,750 – over US$92,000 more than the next highest earner.
Significantly, the top 10 earners (as of 18 July 2022) have representatives of four categories, with the top men’s doubles earners (Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto) coming in at No.11.
Tai Tzu Ying is the second highest with US$140,300, while doubles ace Huang Ya Qiong comes third with US$127,180. Interestingly, she’s a shade ahead of her partner Zheng Si Wei (US$119,687) since she had a successful stint earlier in the season with another partner, Ou Xuan Yi.
Women’s doubles duo Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida, winners of both Super 1000 events this year, each made US$103,894, putting them joint sixth in the earnings.
