Big guns Viktor Axelsen and Kento Momota are outside the top ten of the HSBC Race to Guangzhou Rankings with two-thirds of the season completed.

Denmark’s Axelsen and Japan’s Momota are in joint 13^th place with 29,050 points – both have played four tournaments each.

Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto (featured image) has maintained his position atop the rankings with 51,020 points. Sugiarto has played ten tournaments; he won the season-opening Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters, and was runner-up at the TOYOTA Thailand Open.

Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen, winner of the Singapore Open; Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen and China’s Shi Yuqi’s stayed unchanged at No.2, No.3 and No.4 respectively.

Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon surged to a runner-up finish at the Barcelona Spain Masters, and the 5,950 points earned helped him jump two spots to No.5.

India’s Sameer Verma, winner of the YONEX Swiss Open, is in sixth place while China’s Lin Dan is in seventh. Malaysia’s Liew Daren, bronze medallist at the TOTAL BWF World Championships, has 30,850 points from nine tournaments, helping him to eighth spot.

The others in the top ten are Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto, runner-up at the PERODUA Malaysia Masters, and Thailand’s Khosit Phetpradab, semi-finalist at the YONEX US Open.

The big mover was Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke, whose victory at the Barcelona Spain Masters gave him 7000 points, seeing him jump 13 places up the rankings to No.22. He’s one spot below compatriot Jan O Jorgensen, who moved up eight spots after reaching the quarter-finals in Spain.

Korean veteran Son Wan Ho slipped three spots to No.25.

India’s Kidambi Srikanth, who had an exceptional season last year, was a shadow of himself and languishes in 41^st place; his best from four tournaments being a semi-final at the CELCOM AXIATA Malaysia Open. Compatriot HS Prannoy is in the same boat in 42^nd place.
